The winger, who featured on 36 occasions for the Reds last season, denied charges from Merseyside Police following an incident in Page Moss on Thursday night
Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault following an incident on Merseyside on Thursday night.

The 18-year-old spent the night in police custody as a result of his arrest at around 10:30pm after the emergency services were alerted to an incident involving his partner, Shana Halliday.

And police have now confirmed that Sterling was subsequently charged with common assault when he made his appearance at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Friday morning.

"Merseyside Police can confirm an 18-year-old man was arrested and subsequently charged with assault following an incident last night in Page Moss," a Merseyside Police spokesperson said.

"Raheem Sterling, 18, of Woolton was charged with Section 39 Common Assault. Sterling was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court today."

The England international will now face trial in September.
