Inter will never settle for third spot, insists Cambiasso

The experienced midfielder has set his sights on the Scudetto after a disappointing 2012-13 campaign
Esteban Cambiasso has stressed that Inter would never settle for third spot in the table as he feels they should always be competing for top honours.

The Giuseppe Meazza side had to settle for ninth spot in Serie A last term, but Cambiasso is adamant that making it into the Champions League again is not enough for Inter.

"Would Inter take third place? No, I'd never settle for anything from the outset," the 32-year-old told Sky Sport 24.

"This is Inter we're talking about here - there's no time to get down about things. Whether you've won or you've lost, you can't be thinking about the past.

"When you play for Inter, you always have to win. That doesn't change from one year to the next. If you win one year, you have to repeat your success the year after; if you didn't, then you have to make up for not winning."

The Argentine midfielder then briefly discussed a potential summer move for Samuel Eto'o and refused to rule out a return to Inter for the Anzhi striker.

"Anything can happen in football, in Italy people are more interested in the transfer market than actual games."

Inter were beaten 3-0 by Real Madrid in their last pre-season outing and face Citadella in the Coppa Italia on August 18, before opening their Serie A campaign at home to Genoa a week later.
