Pastore: New signings take the pressure off me

The Argentine has struggled to justify his reported €39.8m transfer fee, so is delighted to have the likes of Edinson Cavani to share the burden at Parc des Princes

Javier Pastore is pleased that Paris Saint-Germain continue to make high-profile signings as he feels the new arrivals lighten the burden of expectation on his shoulders.

The Argentina international has struggled to justify his reported €39.8 million transfer fee since joining from Palermo two years ago after an inconsistent campaign with the French champions last season.

However, the 24-year-old attacking midfielder says that

he now feels less pressure to perform, given he has been joined at the Parc des Princes by the likes of Edinson Cavani and Lucas Moura since making the switch to Parc des Princes 12 months ago.

"With the players that have arrived, the fans no longer look only at me," Pastore is quoted as saying by RMC. "There are now other great players here who were also very expensive.

"It's better for me to have less responsibility. I'm calmer now, that's for sure. When the pressure is shared with your team-mates, it's much better."

Pastore, who was Serie A's Young Player of the Year in 2010, managed only four goals in 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season.
