Soldado targets 20 goals in debut Tottenham season

The 28-year-old scored 30 times in 46 appearances for former club Valencia last term and, though expecting it to be difficult, has faith that his team-mates can help him continue

Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado is aiming for a 20-goal return from his first Premier League campaign.

The Spain international opened his account in a pre-season draw with Espanyol after sealing a €30 million move from Valencia and is looking to continue his exploits from last season, in which he scored 30 goals in 46 appearances for the Liga side.

Soldado told Reuters Television: "To give an exact figure is difficult but my aim is to
score more than 20 goals, which I consider a good number."

The 28-year-old admits that it will hard to reproduce his form from La Liga but has faith in his new team-mates to help him reach his target.

"It will be tough but, with hard work and the support of my team-mates, then it is possible," he argued. "The Premier League is more intense than La Liga and the physical side of things harder than in Spain. Because of that I want to show my commitment to fight for this jersey in the best manner possible.

"However, the main objective is to qualify for the Champions League and we know how hard that will be because the competition is very strong, but we'll take things a step at a time.

"We have to try and take three points from every match. It's the only way to do it so we achieve our aims. We hope to do great things."
