ewcastle striker Remy ruled out of Manchester City clash with injury

The France international, on loan from QPR for the season, will be unavailable for the Magpies' Premier League opener on Aug. 19.
New Newcastle signing Loic Remy will miss the first game of the season against Manchester City.

Manager Alan Pardew confirmed on Sunday that the 26-year-old, on loan from QPR for the season, had picked up a strain that will keep him out of the season opener on Aug. 19.

"We look like we need a bit of improvement at the top of the pitch," Pardew told The Chronicle. "We have Remy in, and unfortunately he's injured, so that's still an area we need to improve on.

"It's just a strain, but it's an area that is stopping him from running at the moment. We need to get some work into him.

"There is no chance of him making Man City."

The France international was in good form for QPR last season, despite the club's relegation, as he netted six goals in 14 appearances after joining from Marseille in January.
