Howard named captain for USA friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina

The veteran goalkeeper will wear the captain's armband in Clint Dempsey's absence when the USA takes on Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday.
With Clint Dempsey left out to be with new club Seattle during this week's international fixture date, Tim Howard will inherit USA captain duties.

U.S. Soccer confirmed on its official Twitter account that Howard will wear the armband when the USA takes on Bosnia-Herzegovina in Sarajevo on Wednesday. On a mix-and-match roster of young and more experienced players, Howard leads the way with 90 caps and is joined by Michael Bradley and Jermaine Jones as available players manager Jurgen Klinsmann has deemed as his leaders in the U.S. player pool.

Howard previously donned the armband in the USA's World Cup qualifying loss in Honduras back in February before Dempsey was named the captain going forward by Klinsmann.

The 34-year-old New Jersey native is slated to begin his eighth season as Everton's first-choice goalkeeper this weekend, when the Toffees head to Carrow Road to kick off the Premier League season against Norwich City.
