Strootman bullish about Roma's Serie A chances

The Dutchman is optimistic about his side's chances in Italy's top flight this season following the arrival of a number of high-profile players
Kevin Strootman is confident that Roma has what it takes to challenge for the Serie A title in 2013-14 as he feels they have plenty of quality in each area of the pitch.

The Giallorossi had to settle for sixth spot in the league table last term and missed out on European football this year, having lost the Coppa Italia final to Lazio.

However, the Netherlands international has little doubt that Roma can improve in the new campaign following the arrival of players such as Maicon, Mehdi Benatia and Gervinho.

"It's still too early to say whether it will be a winning season or not for us, but there's no doubt that we have a lot of quality and good players in each position," Strootman was quoted as saying by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"There were already plenty of good players and then Maicon, Benatia, Gervinho and I came in. I don't see any reason why we couldn't emerge victorious.

"Are we outsiders for the title? It only brings more pressure if you are the favorite. We obviously have the pressure of the fans, but that only motivates us."

Roma opens the Serie A season with an away game against newly promoted Livorno.
